Grants Announced
The WWF Board of Directors has awarded $39,000 in grants for the 2nd cycle of 2011 to four deserving OKC public schools. Two of these schools, Douglass and Crooked Oak Public Schools, are repeat recipients.
"Every grant cycle, the number of applicants increases which just proves how much need is out there. It's a great feeling to be able to help these schools out and give these kids the same opportunities as I had, while also giving them pride in their school and in themselves. And it's also exciting to see different programs apply. I think we are finally getting the word out to the coaches and administrators that we exist and are here to help with ALL sports and not just football." - Wes Welker.
This cycle's recipients are:
- Capitol Hill High School Athletics Program ($15,000 for weight room equipment)
- Crooked Oak Public Schools Soccer Program ($10,000 for game and training goals)
- Douglass High School Athletics Program ($2300 for weight room equipment to complete the room we started 2 years ago)
- Thomas Jefferson Middle School Football Program ($11,500 for football equipment)
The Wes Welker Foundation awards grants twice a year (Summer and Fall) to worthy schools and organizations in the Oklahoma City area. In the last 4 years, the foundation has given out over $200,000 in grant money. Wes Welker founded the WW Foundation 5 years ago to help level the playing field for underprivileged kids in his hometown. Our mission is to influence at-risk youth by encouraging their full potential through athletics and positive role models. We accomplish this by providing athletic grants to schools in need, free sports camps for at-risk youth, and a coach and leadership development program.
