Let me start this blog off by saying thank you to everyone who is supporting the Wes Welker Foundation. As you know, we have recently changed the name from the 83 Foundation to the Wes Welker Foundation. I was reluctant to change it at first, but this is a lot easier to explain this way. Hope everyone is cool with it. Trust me I haven't "changed". This has been an exciting year for the foundation, we have hired an Executive Director, Katie Taylor, who has been doing an amazing job making sure that I cover all of my responsibilities….which can be a handful at times due to my constant need to use sarcasm! But we have also elected a new board that is going to kill it for us this year. This group has a lot of excitement and dedication which is definitely going to carry over into these kids.
I actually got an opportunity to go to the Boys and Girls Club in Oklahoma City on my bye week. The WW Foundation provided them with an unbelievable fitness center this last year. I visited the weight room and actually got a few sets in with the kids. It was good to see them using the equipment, and I was excited about their enthusiasm to have a place to go workout and get better! It was Halloween that week, so all of the kids were dressed in their costumes. They were too funny! I played some hoops with 2 of the kids, and they kicked my butt. Granted, I had just played in an NFL football game, and I was still a little banged up. So cut me some slack! Did I mention one was a girl? Yeah, well she was really good! And when I was a kid, if you beat someone older, you were respectful about it. Not these kids! They were calling me names. Telling me I suck! I mean what is this? Where's the sportsmanship? The next board meeting I'm at this is the issue that I want addressed first. I am only joking, but seriously the next week I only had 10 catches when I could have had 12! Darn KIDS killing my mojo!
