What We Do
The Wes Welker Foundation works to provide a level playing field for our at-risk youth by funding 3 main things:
- Sports Camps
- Grants to schools and youth organizations
- Coaches Leadership and Development
The foundation holds the Welker Football Camp each year. This camp is free for kids who qualify for free and/or reduced lunch. The 2009 football camp gave over 300 kids the opportunity to learn the importance of teamwork and leadership skills from positive role models in our community. Unfortunately, a great number of our public schools lack funding for extracurricular activities and sports. Therefore the WW Foundation distributes grants to schools and organizations who are seeking equipment, uniforms, fields, etc. The foundation also provides Coaches Leadership and Development programs. Going forward, we want to continue growing our organization and provide a greater number of positive role models that will teach our youth to become future leaders in our community. We are currently working on implementing this important aspect of our organization. Leadership development will be geared towards any coach, parent, or person desiring to make a positive impact in children’s lives. We will provide various leadership and coaching clinics that will help them to become better at what they do on a daily basis. What started out as a single football camp has grown into a successful organization that has helped thousands of kids in Oklahoma City. This is just the beginning of what we want to do!
